The Nerd

My name is Melissa and I’m a 24 year old lazy, unemployed bum living in Memphis. Don’t let the picture fool you - I am no airline pilot. I just used to work for an airline. Right now I’m pretty much a failing housewife, only I’m not a wife (yet) and I don’t have kids (yet). That doesn’t stop me from attempting to do housewife-like things, though. Ever since moving in with my boyfriend, I’ve figured out how to make grilled cheese sandwiches and bake cornbread. I guess it’s the thought that counts, though, and I really would love to take care of my man in that housewife-like way someday.

Life in the south is…different. I’m still trying to get used to the heat, the sun, the slow pace of everything and people being genuinely nice to you at the grocery store. A lot of my free time is spent with my boyfriend, but when he’s away doing the airline thing (he’s a pilot for the same airline I used to work for), I sometimes sneak back into my old habits of spending way too much time on the Internet looking at photos of 737s on airliners.net. If you haven’t figured it out from that last sentence and the name of this domain, I’m an aviation nut.

I do have other interests, though. Most of which involve computer nerdiness - web and graphics design (mainly illustration), editing photos or playing video games. I think my PSP is the best purchase I’ve ever made. It’s got video games, photos, movies AND the Internet. What more could I want out of one piece of technology? Forget that iPhone crap!

Hand in hand with the aviation thing, I love to travel. Naturally, for me, the best part of travelling is the mode in which I get there (lets guess now what that would be!), but I have visited some pretty awesome places. I had the opportunity to live and study in Germany for a year and have to say that that was one of the best times of my life. I’ve been to Norway, Ireland, England, The Netherlands, Hungary, The Czech Republic and, naturally, all over Germany. Before I die, I’d really like to see Greece and Egypt…and a ton of other places.

I’m at a good place in my life right now. Aside from being unemployed (which will hopefully soon change), I couldn’t be happier. I’m madly in love with the man of my dreams, he’s madly in love with me and even though he’s gone for 4 or 5 days at a time, we still are able to spend a lot of time together. I feel very fortunate to be where I’m at now. My life finally seems to be on track and I’m enjoying every moment of it. I look forward to every new day with him and I’m so excited to see where we end up in our future together.
